Take a peek into our learning space! Though we are a home based program, our basement has been converted in a cozy learning space specifically for the preschool. Art supplies are always available for exploration. Children are encouraged to express themselves and freely experiment with creative materials. We believe in the joy of process art, which is art that focuses more on the process than the end result. Their art always looks different because each child is different! Children are given ample time to build and explore in collaboration with other children. We embrace the use of learning materials all over our learning space and love to see them mixing items together as they follow their ideas! Early literacy is encouraged and supported with many opportunities for children to practice these skills. We know that sensory experiences support children in tasks they will need later in their learning journey. We love painting! Books are always available both in our indoor learning space and outside, as well. Children are encouraged to borrow books and take them home to read with their families. Ingenuity is built on problem solving experiences. We offer a large variety of loose parts and open ended materials for children to explore. Outdoor time is a huge part of our program and we go outside every day, in all weather (unless it is unsafe to do so). We love a good mud puddle! This beautiful, custom-made playhouse, is a cornerstone for collaboration in our outdoor play space! Our school garden continues to grow year after year. Children are encouraged to explore it as we watch it change through the seasons. Children will learn about seasonal gardening, have the opportunity to try vegetables, grow flowers, and even take produce home! Responsibility and pride is learned through the collaborative maintenance of our school garden. All children also have their own garden plot to work with. We don't need a pile of worksheets to develop the fine motor skills needed for tasks ahead. Both indoor and out, children are always working on those important skills. Children have a multitude of opportunities to work together in community and collaboration with peers. Social and emotional learning are deeply central to our program values. We follow the seasons as we learn both indoor and out. The yard is full of animals, plants, and insects that give us endless topics for inquiry! (baby cottontail rabbit) We have been host to multiple female mallards who have chosen to lay and hatch their ducklings at our home. What a rich learning experience, indeed! We WILL get dirty. Little hands in the dirt and mud are a daily occurrence and we love to see it! Creative art experiences happen outside, just as well as inside! Math and science skills abound in our outdoor classroom as we interact with the things growing in our garden. Each day brings new surprises, new ways to learn, and chances to be in community with friends!
